Derails Website Case Study
The goal of this project was to rebuild the Derails.co.uk website on OpenCart version 3.0.3.8 from its current version of 1.5.4. We set up a development environment on an Antropy server and used the Antropy Multipurpose theme as the basis for the website's layout and design.
We made some design adjustments, including adding the current logo and changing the colour scheme from pink and purple to light blue and turquoise. We also added a second description box to the product pages and created a new tab in the System > Settings page for editing this description. Additionally, we added the availability status for products to category lists and search results. We also added coloured "Add-to-cart" buttons that showed in different colours based on stock.
The website's shipping options were left the same as the current website, including Flat Rate, Free Shipping, Pickup From Store, and Weight Based Shipping. Payment options included Bank Transfer, PayPal Express Checkout, and SagePay V3 which are standard features with OpenCart. Antropy also ensured that SEO-friendly URLs and proper configurations for robots.txt and sitemap.xml were in place.
For data migration, we handled the data migration of customers, orders, products, categories, and information pages. After testing and sign-off, the new website was moved to the live server, with efforts made to minimize downtime during the final data migration.
The website rebuild was completed successfully, and the new website was launched on the live server. The client was happy with the new design and functionality of the website, as well as the added features such as the second product description box and availability status for products. The website now uses version 3.0.3.8 of OpenCart and is optimized for SEO, improving its visibility in search engines.
